I knew Doug as a fellow worshipper at St. Luke UMC, Lexington, KY. As the Director of Music for many years, Doug often offered a kind word of appreciation and a sincere, friendly hello. A graduate of Nicholas County High School, Mitch joined the United States Air Force right out of high school and served for four years before joining IBM and working as a cost accountant for 10 years. Mitch loved his family, reading, working in the yard trimming and pruning trees and landscaping, and he was an avid UK basketball fan.In addition to his wife of 35 years, Deborah, he is survived by his daughter Cathy (Donald) Martin of St. Jacob, IL; his two step-sons: Robert Thomas (Cassie) McCandless and Matthew Edward McCandless, both of Berry, KY; his five grandchildren: Lori Applegate of Richmond, KY, Joshua (Emily) Applegate of Salem, OR, Nolan McCandless, Kash McCandless, and Parker McCandless, all of Berry, KY; his great grandchild: Marlee Applegate; his sister Gerry Stephens of Carlisle, KY; and a host of extended family and friends.He was also preceded in death by his daughter Terri Lynn Mitchell in 2018 and his brother Grimes K. Mitchell in 2012.Funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.
